More Than Just Registration Authorities

To the general public, a Bar Council might seem like just a body that registers lawyers. But for those of us in the system, we know they serve a far deeper purpose. They:

Enforce the code of conduct for advocates
Investigate complaints against lawyers
Take disciplinary action where needed

Their decisions can uphold the dignity of the profession — or repair it when it’s under threat.

Ethics in Action

I recall a matter where a young lawyer had shared confidential client details on social media, unknowingly breaching client-attorney privilege. A Bar Council intervention not only corrected the course but educated many others in the process. It wasn’t just a warning — it was a lesson in responsibility.
